BRIDGING THE GAPS · A BOOK BY DIIVORY EDGECOMB
Understand yourself. Learn from your setbacks. Take a more intentional next step.
Filling the Space Between Your Successes and Failures
You’ve experienced success. You know what it feels like to make progress, follow through and see your effort pay off.
But what happens between those moments? When your focus slips, life changes or a setback leaves you questioning your next move?
This book is about looking at that space—and what you can do with it.

LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN THE WINS
Maybe you’ve reached a goal and struggled to keep the momentum. Maybe you’ve worked hard, made a decision that didn’t work out, or found yourself starting over when you thought you should be further along.
It’s easy to respond by pushing harder. It’s also easy to let one difficult season become the story you tell yourself about your ability.
Neither response tells you much about the gap itself.
What are you paying attention to? How do you respond when the plan changes? Which habits help you move forward—and which ones keep you returning to the same place?
Bridging the Gaps invites you to ask those questions. It brings together the subjects DiIvory returned to while making sense of his own successes and setbacks: self-understanding, development, adaptability, fear, time, focus, routines, curiosity and action.
The aim is to give you a practical place to begin. Read with your own situation in mind. Notice what feels familiar. Then choose something to work on.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BOOK
I wasn’t planning to write a book. I was helping someone else connect with a publisher.
When I introduced myself, the publisher thought the meeting was for me. I explained that it wasn’t—but he wanted to hear my story anyway. After the conversation, he challenged me to write a rough draft and submit it for consideration.
I hadn’t thought of my own story as book-worthy. Still, I accepted the challenge. I told my wife I was going to write about success and my life, and I wrote the book in thirty days.
Bridging the Gaps grew from that unexpected challenge into a short, direct read about what I had learned through my own successes and setbacks. My aim was to share ideas people could understand and put to work, without filling the pages with complicated language.
I want you to look at your own experiences with that same openness. What can you learn from what has worked? What can you change after a setback? And what action will you choose next?

Meet DiIvory →IDEAS YOU CAN BRING INTO YOUR OWN LIFE
The book’s subjects aren’t separate from everyday life. They show up in the promise you keep, the task you postpone, the question you avoid and the way you respond when something doesn’t go to plan.
Chapter 1 asks you to look beyond the version of yourself you assume everyone sees. It explores feedback from others, your own self-evaluation and questions that help you examine what matters to you.
A difficult experience can give you something to reflect on. The chapters on personal development and adaptability invite you to consider what you can learn, what has changed and how you want to respond.
Before you can work on a pattern, you need to see it. Consider the situations you hesitate to face and the decisions you keep delaying. Use the book’s discussion of fear as a starting point for your own reflection.
What you say matters and what receives your time aren’t always the same thing. Explore the connection between where your attention goes, the choices you repeat and the work you want to move forward.
You don’t have to have every answer before you begin. Curiosity keeps you open to learning; action gives you an experience to review. The final chapters bring the conversation back to what you do next.

I didn’t write this book to impress you with complicated language. I wanted to share what I had learned and make it useful to someone facing gaps of their own.
